Inaugural 9/11 Honor Walk Coming to Huntsville

2014 911 Walk Hsv

Still Serving Veterans, Soldier 1 Corporation, Turning Point Consultants LLC, Distinct Grace, Blue Star Veterans, and the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, have teamed up to bring Huntsville the inaugural “9/11 Honor Walk: Remember. Heal. Celebrate.” on Sep. 13, 2014 from noon to 5:00 p.m. at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center. The event is free with preregistration and will bring the community together in order to remember and honor all those affected by the tragic events of Sep. 11, 2001.

On September 11th, our world changed in an instant. We were handed a stunning tragedy the reverberations of which still echo in our lives today. With enormous dedication and courage First Responders rushed into burning towers and into the Pentagon. Passengers took down a commercial jet to save others. Others too, bore an incredibly disproportionate share of our country’s response to the attacks. Our military and their families, with enormous heroism, absorbed the consequences for us all with costs we cannot imagine. On Sep. 13, 2014 we honor them

The Honor Walk is no ordinary walk – it’s a labyrinth walk that is modest yet reflective. The 60×60 labyrinth is a simple path leading in a circular fashion to a center and then back out again. It will be located under the Path Finder Space Shuttle with the Color Guard for a one-of –a –kind first experience in North Alabama to honor the destiny of our times through those who paid for our future. There are no tricks or traps. As in life, there are many twists and turns and this ancient pattern can make visible and concrete the interior journey of those who walk it. Following the walk will be the celebration that will feature music from local bands JED Eye, Distinct Grace, and The Reps.

Tickets to the event are free with preregistration and include access to the U.S. Space & Rocket Center’s museum. Attendants without tickets will be required to pay museum entry or register at the door in order to access the event. Visit rocketcenter.com/HonorWalk to register for tickets.

The Monterey Peninsula’s love affair with world-class racing traces its beginnings to the inaugural running of the Pebble Beach Road Races in 1950. Those sports car events quickly outgrew the public roads of the Del Monte Forest yet the popularity of the races and the financial impact on the community had impressed the military authorities at Fort Ord and they wanted to pick up where Pebble Beach left off. In 1957 the Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula (SCRAMP), a group of local businessmen dedicated to keeping sports car racing alive on the Monterey Peninsula, began negotiations with the Army to build a race track on Fort Ord property. Major General W.M. Breckenridge cut the ribbon at the new facility for its first race November 9, 1957.

In addition, there is a 30% military discount on tickets for Friday and Sunday . Please contact the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca ticket office in advance at 800-327-7322 to receive the military discount.  Click HERE for more information about the Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix, powered by Mazda, May 2-4.

Beer & Bacon Bash!

Straight to Ale - PNGStraight to Ale is hosting a crowd-funded event on Saturday, March 29th from 4pm-10pm at the Straight to Ale brewery called Beer & Bacon Bash 2014! The event will serve as a fundraiser for Still Serving Veterans, a local nonprofit that assist Veterans and their families.

It is $10 per ticket, $25 for a ticket and a t-shirt, or $500 for a sponsorship. Tickets get you in the door, plenty of yummy bacon appetizers and dishes, and the chance to hear some great live, local music. Straight to Ale will also have their delicious beers for sale as well.

Because it is crowd-funded, Straight to Ale must raise $5,000 for the event to take place so it is imperative to buy tickets as soon as possible – or else the event may not become a reality. You can make your contribution here and reserve your tickets and t-shirts. There are no set prices for items so you must input the correct amount (i.e. if you want two tickets you will enter $20 for your contribution or if you want two tickets but only one t-shirt you will enter $35 for your contribution). Please also ensure that you leave a valid and active email address when you make your purchase – this will allow Straight to Ale to contact you in case there is any questions about your contribution.

The site will not charge your card unless the event “tilts,” or makes enough money to take place.

We hope to see you there and would appreciate you helping to spread the word. It will be a fun, laid-back event that supports Veterans and their families. Of the funds donated to Still Serving Veterans, 85 cents of every dollar directly funds their programs and services. Overall, it’s a win-win: You get to enjoy beer, bacon, and music and support Veterans!

Check out their Facebook event page here.
